Biography

Marcus Schwarz was born in Dinkelsbühl/Bavaria.

Ruskin K. Cooper from Winston-Salem, North Carolina was one of his early piano teachers, and Marcus Schwarz became enthralled by his love to ragtime.

He studied music theory at the Dr. Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt/Main and piano at the Music Academy in Kassel with Nikolaj Posnyakov, Joachim Kirschner and Ivan Urwalow.

Further ragtime projects – besides the above-mentioned kammeroper experiences – were created in collaboration with actress Sabine Wackernagel (“Red Peppers – The Ragtime Women”, 2009) Argentinian charango virtuoso Diego Jascalevich (“Charango-Ragtime”, 2016), as well as singer Sylvia Cordes (“Everybody’s Singing The Sugar Blues”, 2022) among others.

Regular projects with pianist Barbara Schmidt in a fourhanded piano duo for many years.

Since 1995, he has been teaching piano at the Music School in Baunatal (Hesse, Germany).
